I had a chance to put my kayak in the river with a group of people from Meetup.com this past Saturday. The trip was "advertised" as 2 miles, and about 2 hours. It ended up being about 2 and a half hours, which to me was not a problem, since I love being in my yak! However, based on the GPS one of the guys in the group has built into his cell phone, it was more like 5 miles. Pretty cool, if you ask me.
The only problem with this trip was the fact that the fiberglass patch the previous owner did on the hole he made had dry-rotted over the winter. Yep, after about an hour, I was sittin in water! Good thing another yaker had a bilge pump handy. (I need to get a super-soaker) Anyway, when we took out at the landing, the guide told me how to repair it. Basically getting a block of material and with a heat gun, melt it onto the hole, and re-shape it.
I called the manufacturer, who told me to call a dealer, who told me they don't sell the material, but they can fix it for me - I'm sure for a fee. Luckily, I know a guy who knows a guy who probably can get me some material straight from the manufacturer. I think I'll just wait and see how soon I can get that. That way I can fix it mineself. :-)
It's already 81 outside and extremely muggy!!

Well, I spent the last half of yesterday medicated and in the bed. It's been a long time since I have had a headache that bad! I'm pretty sure it's past, though. THANKFULLY!
Tonight I see The Groovetones at the Metropolitan Lounge and Bistro. I know the cook, so I'm getting a custom made, not on the menu, awesome pizza!! Gotta love it!

Welcome to May 2010
Yes, I realize it's the THIRD already. But at least I'm here.
I've had a lot going on at work. Lots of changes, modifications, and clarifications. They continue today. There's a meeting scheduled to begin momentarily in which several things (tasks, assignments, etc) should be clarified. Hopefully the outcome will be as positive as I am imagining they will be. I guess only time will tell.
It's currently 73 degrees, muggy, and becoming cloudy.

Yes, it's me. Back again after not posting for TOO LONG!
Not to make excuses, but I've kinda been going and going.
The pollen has been wrecking havoc with my head and lungs. EVERYTHING is covered in a fine yellow powder and it's just about to drive me crazy! Today is the day I catch up with several things...a couple at work, and a couple at home. And I definitely need to do laundry!
So, have a nice Easter, and I'll post something later today, or first thing tomorrow.
oh, woke up to 54 and hazy, but it should be about 80 and sunny today
:-)

Had a busy, LONG day yesterday. After driving all the way to Fort Stewart just to find out the meeting had been cancelled, I got back to the office and worked on the few things needing attention. I made a couple phone calls, got a couple leads...then went to see my buddies playing back-up at Marty Falle's Lowcountry Jam open mic night.
Got home about 10 and was asleep before my head hit the pillow!
Making as many calls today as I can so I can fill up my schedule for next week!!!
61 and partly cloudy !!!!!!!!!

Didn't sleep much again last night for hacking and coughing. Took a Claritin this morning and it seems to have helped some. So I guess this really is more of allergies than a cold. THATs good to know!
Got up early and went all the way to Ft Stewart (about an hour and a half away) just to discover the meeting had been cancelled. :-o
Oh well.

Yesterday was another long day. My head and chest are getting congested, which makes me feel sluggish, so that makes it worse. I came home a little early, took some cough syrup and went to bed! I slept most of the night, only waking up a couple of times.
Woke up to 46 and clear.

Long day yesterday. Went to Beaufort for work, then to the south end of Hilton Head to pick up some gear for the Tones, then stopped and uploaded several videos at Panera (high speed wireless!). This morning I am loading up my short kayak so a guy can meet me at the office at 7:30 to possibly buy it. Then lots to get accomplished today!
After tossing and turning all night, I finally got up about 5...to 45 and clear.

Didn't sleep much last night. Kept having strange dreams involving robotic aliens overtaking the world...what's THAT all about?!?!
Going in to work early to make sure all the details are dealt with on several smaller things, then headed to Beaufort to survey an existing building for work.
Might sell a kayak after work today...if the guy doesn't "no show".

Well...it's been a busy weekend. But I have had a good time. It started with The Groovetones Friday night at Kanaley's on the south end of Hilton Head Island. I helped the guys carry gear in and set up some. Then as they played, the "crowd" of few turned into less and less. So, it became a special birthday concert just for me! They still played their hearts out and we all loved it! Of course I helped them break down and load up.
Saturday, I slept in...til 8! Then cleaned up around the house just a bit and went down to Wingfest. This is a fundraising event where many Island restaurants set up tents and sell various styles of wings. There is also a stage where different bands get to show off their talents. When I got there, Deaz Guys were on stage. They played beach music and motown. Very cool. Musta been 2000 or more people when I got there. I ran into Brandi and her friend Brittney. Brandi works at The Metropolitan Lounge and Bistro, where I've been to see the Tones. She’s a beautiful and friendly girl. So of course I had to say hi. :-)
Later in the day, I took a needed nap! Played online a bit, then headed to Beaufort! Why? The Groovetones, of course. They were appearing at Plum's. Not having been to Beaufort except for work, and seeing only ancient buildings on Main St., I wasn't sure what kinda place it would be. Turned out that, even though the building was probably 100 years old, they had renovated the inside to turn it into a terrific restaurant and raw bar. We had to wait over an hour for patrons to finish eating so the staff could move out the tables in order to make room for the band. Anyway…we got everything in and set up, then I asked Tony if he needed to move the truck…since it was parked on the road, almost blocking a crosswalk. He tossed me the keys and I took off to move it. I got in, put the key in the ignition, turned it…and “click-click-click-click.” It sooo wouldn’t start. But I knew that sound. The battery wasn’t totally dead, but the flashers had been left on too long. Luckily, a city cop was driving by and I flagged him down. He got turned around and jumped it off for me!
Well, I got the truck moved, but had to park at the marina because of the trailer. By the time I got back to Plum’s, the ‘Tones had started and the place was PACKED! From the very beginning, I could tell it was going to be difficult at best to shoot any video. But I still tried. I think I got something useful, so I have my other computer uploading to YouTube. It seems to take forever, but as I get the videos posted, I’ll post links.
While the ‘Tones played, I met a really nice lady who told me she had been up and down Bay St checking out other bands too. We talked a while about music, bands, work and a few other things, and decided to go next door and check out the rock band. When we got in there, the guys were sounding good. They played more hard rock, but I was familiar with those songs and these guys did a great job. The lead singer was really getting into his performance, too. They all blended well. I might have to come back in 2 weeks when they will be there again. We’ll see.
Well, I better get busy with my house-cleaning…I might decide to add to this later…ya never know!!!

I got my new HD video camera late yesterday...charged the batteries...so I'm ready to shoot the Groovetones tonight! They will be at Kanaleys on Hiton Head tonight, then tomorrow they play at Plums in Beaufort. I hope the video is good enough quality that they can use it on their website.
Lots of little things to do at work today....
